Columbus City Council Meeting on MONDAY
CondoHop on THURSDAY
Vino Amore on THURSDAY

Got myself bogged down in a couple of volunteer projects this weekend so I'm takin' a little breather on the full editorial this week and only posted new articles and the weekly panorama for Monday. Hopefully you won't miss my pontificating too much...it's only for this week.

I will leave you with this tidbit if you haven't already heard: The arches in the Short North Arts District won't be lit until early to mid 2007. Turns out that costs for the project, as it was described in the last major story in the Dispatch with the advanced LED system, weren't tallied up correctly by the city and didn't factor in some significant cost increases.

Essentially the Short North was given the option of just getting white lights or picking up the tab for the more sophisticated LED systems that had been discussed in the past. The Short North Special Improvement District will now be paying the balance for getting the LED based system, which from what I've heard is a hefty sum.

I'm working on the details and am hoping to see an article or two pop up about the real story behind the scenes but from what I gather, the Short North seems to have gotten a raw deal...but they aren't complaining. I won't go any further than that until I get some more solid facts but if you've been following the story for the past few years, I'm finding it odd that not a word was said about the latest delay and the fact that the Short North has to pick up the tab. Hmmm...spin control maybe?

If you've got more info or have come across any articles on the topic that I may have missed, please e-mail me or comment on this posting.

Until next week...
