the urban news for the week ending Monday, April 28, 2008

So it's taken me quite a bit longer to get the site going than I wanted it to, but I've got the framework up for the new COLUMBUS-STREETCARS.COM website. Mind you, it's only about 50% operational and all the functioning pieces aren't up-and-running, but the foundation is now in place.

My goal with the site is not necessarily to facilitate conversation, but actually to 1) provide updates and status reports on the system as it progresses, 2) collect and archive articles and stories that are in the media about the streetcar system and 3) to search out and provide information about other cities across the United States that are looking at streetcars too.

Also, my apologies to those of you that look forward to getting caught up on the urban news on Monday mornings with the RetroMetro e-mail newsletter. For the past two weeks I'm blaming it on my lack of sleep due to the overtime I've been putting into the new streetcar website. Now that the bulk of it is done though, we can resume our regularly scheduled newsletters :) Just for the inconvenience, the next two weeks are on the house <smirk>.

More to come regarding the site, but for now, have a peek by following the "metrospective" link below...
